Ethie Castle, Scotland

A warm welcome awaits you at Ethie Castle, an ancient sandstone fortress dating from the 14th Century. Ethie is reputed to be Scotland’s second oldest permanently inhabited castle. These days, it’s a haven of hospitality and peace.

Each bedroom is unique with a homely feel. One room has a super-king bed, private bathroom and its own sitting room with views over the garden; another room overlooks the courtyard with a 1920’s art deco bathroom. There is also a four poster bedroom with luxury en suite bath and shower room. Guests are welcome to make themselves at home in front of a roaring log fire in one of the sitting rooms on cooler evenings. The barrel vaulted Cardinal's Room has a secret stairwell, wood panelling and a tiny door to Cardinal Beaton's ancient chapel. The Television Room is informal with deep cushioned sofas. The Georgian Drawing Room is elegant and hung with fine art. At the top of the Castle, reached by 3 of the 5 stone turnpikes, is the Tapestry Room with glorious views over the surrounding countryside and farmland. Breakfast is served in the magnificent Tudor Kitchen with its massive stone fireplace where a welcoming log fire is always maintained.

A short drive away are majestic Scottish glens and peaks for a day spent exploring the stunning countryside. Countryside pursuits abound in the form of fishing, shooting, or walking. Glamis Castle, home of the late Queen Mother, is very close, as is Kirriemuir, the birthplace of J M Barrie, creator of Peter Pan. History aplenty with local Cathedrals, castles and ruins. Picturesque coastal villages.

Getting there
Situated on Scotland's East coast, only 25 minutes north of the thriving city of Dundee. Nearest train station at Arbroath.
