A warm welcome awaits you at the de Morgan family home, Ethie Castle. An ancient sandstone fortress dating from the 14th Century, Ethie is reputed to be Scotland’s second oldest permanently inhabited castle. It was immortalized by Sir Walter Scott as ‘Knockwinnoch’ in his novel ‘The Antiquary’. These days, Ethie is a haven of hospitality and peace, and guests can either relax in the splendour of the castle, or choose from a multitude of activities ranging from walking the cliffs only minutes away, or exploring the inland glens where wildlife is abundant.

Meals

  • Breakfast is served between 7.30am and 9.00am in the magnificent Tudor kitchen with its massive stone fireplace with a log fire is always maintained; Arbroath smokies on request.
  • Dinner at £30 per head to include three courses, coffee and wine. Dinner available in Tudor Kitchen or for larger parties in the Castle Dining Room.
  • All produce used at Ethie is of the freshest and highest standard, and special diets are catered for.

Further Information

  • Other rooms availble to guests: make yourself at home in front of a roraing log fire on cooler evenings, in one of the sitting rooms. The barrel vaulted Cardinal's Room has a secret stairwell, wood panelling and a tiny door to Cardinal Beaton's ancient chapel. The Television Room is informal with deep cushioned sofas. In contrast the Georgian Drawing Room is elegant and hung with fine art. While at the top of the Castle, reached by 3 of the 5 stone turnpikes is the Tapestry Room with glorious views over the surrounding countryside and farmland.
